Frequently Asked Questions and Other Details You Need to Know!
Welcome to project 411! We are so glad you have agreed to join us in this once-in-a-lifetime chance to make a difference in a family's life.
We know you have questions about how the project will progress, and how you can use this opportunity to promote your business or organization. If we do not answer them here, please feel free to e-mail our public relations department at extremepr@neb.rr.com .
How do I find out how to get to the build site and what is going on each day?
This website is your number one source for project 411. You will want to check back frequently for updates on the progress of the build, photos of volunteers and workers in action, and other information.
I want to give money to help this project. Can I do that?
We hope that as you learn more about this deserving Nebraska family, you will want to make a contribution toward this project. Click here for more details about how to donate.
I am a skilled tradesperson and I want to help. Can you guarantee me I will get to work on this house?
Unfortunately, no. Most volunteer positions are for "unskilled" labor in cleanup and service roles. We cannot guarantee there will be any need for skilled volunteers to work directly on this family's dream home. Click here for more information about volunteering.
Do I need a special pass to visit the build site?
No. You may visit as a spectator at any time. Please park in the spectator parking area and wait to board the spectator shuttle bus. See map.
Do VIP's, Media , volunteers and workers need a special pass?
Yes. Everyone in the build site will be directed to visit the check- in tent upon arrival. Everyone on the build site must sign a photo release allowing their picture/video to be used in the program and in promotions of the program. If you have a VIP pass, you will be given access to the VIP tent. Media passes are available to credentialed media representatives only. (To become credentialed, please go to the media room.)
Can I drive my vehicle to the build site?
No All spectators, volunteers, contractors and VIP's will be required to ride a shuttle from the Check-In area to the build site. Space is at a premium and traffic will be congested. Please allow yourself extra time to get where you need to be.
What about caterers and media?
All vehicles, volunteers, supply trucks - everyone-must stop at the Check- In area first. Caterers and media will be escorted to the build site from the Check-In area.
I want to meet Ty and the designers. When will they be signing autographs?
Please remember this project is a working Hollywood set with an incredibly tight deadline. You may see some of the program's stars while you are visiting, but there is no formal schedule for meetings between them and the general public. Please do not interrupt the work of the production crew or stars. However, if you do get a chance for an autograph, please do not allow anyone to write on your hard hat. It must be returned at the end of your shift. Shirts are good places for autographs of this kind. Bring permanent marker with you, just in case!
Can volunteers and other workers eat at the contractors' meal tent?
Yes, if they are working at least an 8-hour shift. Four meals are provided daily, primarily for construction and television crews.
Where can I camp at the build site?
There is no provision for anyone outside the construction or television crews to be housed on the building site. Please make arrangements to stay in a nearby hotel or campground if you feel you need to stay near the build site.
Will Project 411 be on TV news or in the newspaper?
Yes! And, we recommend you assign someone to keep track of the press coverage for you and your company. Local media reporters will be on the build site every day. We can't determine exactly what they will cover or what photos or video they will use. We recommend you ask a friend or family member to record the nightly local news and watch local newspapers for clippings of the event. You can use these items for your own promotional purposes later, keeping in mind copyright laws. You cannot legally copy or distribute copyrighted news material for your own promotion, but you can share it in-house and in individual sale situations.
Can I use the ABC and Extreme Makeover Logos in my public promotion?
Not without special permission. If you have not already signed and returned the Vendor Trade Out agreement which included information about logo use, you can download it from our website or ask to have it emailed to you. Upon approval from ABC you may be able to use a logo for in-house promotional materials.
Will I be on TV?
The show's camera crew will tape approximately 600 hours of footage, which will then be edited to 45 minutes to be seen on TV. Chances are, you'll be around a camera, but you may not actually see yourself on TV. Part of the fun is watching later to see who makes the cut!
